Bedgebury Harvesting Operations

As Bedgebury is a working forest it is necessary for the Forest Commission to carry out Harvesting operations. The harvesting is due to begin from Monday 16th January for a period of 10 weeks.

How will this effect the trails??.

There are likely to be some trail diversion's put in place, if you come across these please adhere to them as they are there for the safety of all.

There will be no Races for Seniors/Juniors/Women U14s and U16s on 16th October due to the semi waterlogged state of parts of the track. To hold a race would damage the track which could not then be repaired until spring 2011.

There will be races for U10 and U12 Categories.

Bedgebury Bike Park Area FC Statement

This area is still closed at the present time. Repair and improvement work has been carried out on the Dirt Jumps, but we ask visitors to keep off whilst the areas dry and settle in. The high level Northshore has been removed - this has been necessary for safety reasons as dangerously slippery and timber rot is appearing in a number of areas. We are currently putting plans together for future development of the Bike Park and would welcome any comments, feedback. Sorry for any inconvenience and we will re open as soon as possible.

The Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, Cllr Mrs Sue Murray, is delighted to announce that on Sunday 11 April 2010, she will be holding a Charity Bike Ride to raise money for her chosen charities, Carers' FIRST and Age Concern. The event will take place using the Tonbridge to Penshurst Cycle Route

Christmas Night Ride

The special Christmas nightride will be on Wednesday December 16th. Cover your bike in tinsel and fairly lights and join us in a winter wonderland. Led by Andy, we now need to know how many people are coming so we know how much (non alcoholic) mulled wine and hot mince pies to bring along. Please reply to the post on the forum and for further updates.
Please note that we cannot accept unaccompanied juniors or inexperienced seniors on nightrides. Please contact the club before you come out if you have any doubts.

Trail Build 12th December

Saturday 12th December is a club trail build day. If you want to get involved with improving the trails and see what some of the club members look like under their helmets then this is the day for you. Trail building is immensely satisfying particularly when you ride down a great new bit of trail thinking "I helped build this". Tools are provided, but if you have a spade or mattock and want to bring it along, then that will be great as we sometimes have more people than tools. We use bikes to get to the work area, and we advise bringing a packed lunch. Meeting point is at the bike shop at 10am, and we work until around 3pm although you can of course leave at any time.

Sunday the 29th of November we are having an outride to Swinley Forest. Those of you who have not been before the forest is located near to Bracknell and consists of miles of singletrack some of which is natural. Its great fun and has some good technical runs.
We meet at the Lookout Discovery Centre RG12 7QW at 10.00 where you will need to get a permit to ride which costs two pounds for the day and there is free parking.

Bedgebury Forest Harvesting Operations

The Forestry Commission are to begin tree harvesting

To ensure the safety of the public, small sections of the forest where work is taking place will be closed. Please pay attention to warning signs and to instructions from Forest Workers.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the works some rides and tracks may become rutted and muddy during the harvesting, however this damage will be repaired at the end of the operation.

We will keep you posted once we know what area's will be affected.

It is with great sadness we have to report that an XL Lapierre Zesty 314 has been stolen from Quench Cycles at Bedgebury. Firstly if you see this bike (there aren't many of them about) please let Quench know and secondly this does remind us that, unfortunately, Bedgebury is not exempt from being the victim of theft so we urge all visitors to be as vigilant as possible with their pride and joy when visiting the site. New bikes for the Boars!

In partnership with and thanks to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and Kent Sport, Leisure & Olympic Services, the Club has secured funding from the Sports Unlimited programme to purchase a new fleet of training bikes. We've chosen a selection of Marin hardtails which will be used for coaching young members from the Club and local schools to ride around the forest and improve their cycling skills. For full details see the press release on the main news page.

Thanks must go to Marin distributors ATB Sales Ltd who have also offered their "local resident" discount upon production of a valid BFCC membership card. Based in St Leonards-on-Sea it's not far to travel for a great bike at a great price.

Road works to Lady Oak Lane

Part of Lady Oak Lane will be closed next Thursday 11th and Friday 12th June for essential repair work. This will be from the A21 down the B2079 to the main Bedgebury entrance. We will be open as normal. A diversion will be in place around by Goudhurst and the A262. We apologise for the short notice. This is "subject to good weather conditions" and normal service is expected to be resumed on the Saturday.

Advance notice: car park (but not the trails!) closure

The car park approaches are getting a new coat of tarmac on 11 and 12 May so the car park will be closed on these days. If you are planning on visiting Bedgebury on those days the walled garden will be open for parking and you are kindly requested to walk your bike down to the trail head. Bikes at the visitors' centre

The club has succeeded in getting the "No Bikes" ban lifted at the Pineatery (the Visitor Centre cafe). From 1 April you will be able to PUSH your bike down to the Pineatery and keep an eye on your wheels whilst enjoying coffee and cake!

Please respect the signs and don't ride your bike in the area and ensure it isn't causing an obstruction. Failure to do so may see the restrictions re-instated. If you see a fellow cyclist ignoring the signs, please politely point the signs out to them.

A trail called Wanda - avoid (for now!)

A request from the BFCC trail builders: please can you keep off "Wanda's Trail" (fifth section after the steep climb from the bridge on the fourth) for the time being. It was worked on on Saturday and has a sign requesting riders not to use it, please observe these notices. If you would like to help out on the next trail build please contact us.

The club needs a few more volunteers (you don't have to be a member!) for the upcoming "Test the Best" Specialized/Giant event on the 29 March to marshall the event, can you help out? If you can please contact us as soon as you can. There are funds available to subsidise lunches for marshalls on Sunday too!

Join the club before April and SAVE £10

The FC's annual season ticket is being raised to £50 for 2009/10; excellent value if you take the bike and kids to the forest at least once a month BUT if you sign up for Boars on Bikes before March 31st you will be able to get the car park season ticket for the 2008/09 price! So a family membership with car parking will be £70 for the year and a similar solo membership £55 - saving £10 on post-April 1st prices. So don't be an April Fool contact us and we will send you the forms.
